Greek Style Ritual Knife
The ritual knife, sometimes known as the “Athame” is a tool used in some occult practices, namely ceremonial traditions and Wicca. This tool is NOT intended to draw blood, but rather to direct flow of energy in ritual. The Athame is traditionally a small, black-handled knife that is meant to be used and held only by its owner. Often it is said that the Athame must be a double-edge blade and that it must be gifted, rather than purchased. However, many modern practitioners take this with a grain of salt. It is important to use discernment for yourself when choosing magickal tools.
The concept of a ritual dagger spans many different cultures and time periods, however the Athame as we know it today originates namely from Wicca, a religion created by Gerald Gardener in the first half of the 20th century. Wicca is a modern pagan religion that is inspired by ancient paganism and Hermeticism.
This particular ceremonial dagger breaks the mold of a ‘traditional’ athame. It features figural motifs on both handle and blade, as well as a sturdy sheath made from plastic and metal, and measures around 6 inches in total length.
The blade is sharp. This product is not intended for children.
